Elegant and light ostrich feathers have been held in high esteem for centuries. From Pharaohs fans to Roman general’s helmets, high fashion hats and boas, symbols of the Justice System and antistatic dusters, ostrich feathers have always been in demand.

Black ostrich feathers are from the bodies of males and the grey/brown feathers come from the females. Highly sort after; large white plumes come from the wings of both males and females. These pure white feathers can grow to 60-70cm long.

The ostrich feather is distinctive compared to other bird feathers. The barb feathers on either side of the mid rib are exactly the same length and separated to form a soft floating feather, unlike other birds where one side is shorter than the other. Ostriches do not need their feathers for flight but need them for warmth and protection.

Ostrich feathers are not only beautiful and perfect for decorative uses they also have a practical use as dusters in the domestic and commercial cleaning industry. The ostrich feather has anti static properties which makes the perfect duster for removing small dust particles and not creating static to draw the dust back on to the surface again. For this reason ostrich feather dusters are used when assembling computers and also in removing dust on cars to achieve a superior paint finish on luxury cars.
